Interesting discussion about Gradle and Build systems

Hi,

on the Groovy mailing list, the proposal has been made to use Gradle
as the build system for the Groovy project. This has spawned an
interesting debate between Maven proponents, me, Russel and some
independents.

I found one posting in particular noteworthy. It is from Jochen
Theodorou, the Groovy Project Tech Lead. Without knowing the details
of Gradle, he formulated his ideas for a build system. I think Gradle
comes pretty close to what is in his mind. Here is the link to this
long and interesting posting: http://markmail.org/message/

One result of this debate is, that the Groovy team is considering to
switch its build system from Ant to Gradle. The Gradle team will
implement a Gradle build for Groovy. If the Groovy developers are
happy with this, chances are good that Gradle will become the new
build system for Groovy, beginning with the Groovy 1.7 stream.

Very exciting news, I believe this project has great potential. It certainly has solved many of my frustrations with ant, and I find it more appealing than Maven.

very interesting discussion ...

russel does a great job in promoting gradle.
this is esp. remarkable as there were/are 'tensions'
between gant and gradle - as he expresses himself.
